Residents Voice Concerns Over Growing Crime
In response to a recent surge in criminal activities, the Port St. Lucie police are intensifying patrols in the Town Park community of Tradition. Incidents include a December shooting and theft of catalytic converters within a few weeks, prompting residents like Malik Mowatt to express their concerns. Mowatt, a Tradition resident for nearly a decade, moved to Port St. Lucie from Miami seeking a safer and family-friendly environment. He appreciates the increased police presence but remains worried about the growth in criminal activities.
Port St. Lucie police have assigned 24 officers to District 5, which covers Town Park, and have introduced a bicycle patrol officer in the neighborhood. Despite concerns, they report no suspicious activity since the heightened patrols began.
The police are focusing their efforts on specific neighborhoods within Town Park, such as Stockton, Fieldstone, Bennington, and Lake Park. Additionally, the department is actively engaging with the community through outreach efforts to address concerns and reassure residents.

Residents Question City’s Safety Status
Tradition resident John Krasula, who went through the sheriff and police-citizen academy to volunteer as a citizen patrol, questions whether Port St. Lucie remains the safest city in Florida. He emphasizes the need to consider the broader picture, especially with the continuous influx of new residents. Krasula’s involvement as a volunteer reflects a community-driven effort to contribute to safety measures.
Despite being recognized as the safest city in the state, recent events have sparked uncertainty among residents about the city’s overall safety.
