On Saturday, at approximately 11:50 p.m., deputies swiftly responded to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of East Avenue J-2, alerted to the harrowing situation of fatal child abuse reported by the mother of the children.
In a tragic incident of fatal child abuse that unfolded in Lancaster late Saturday, authorities have apprehended the father of the victims, resulting in two children losing their lives and two others being hospitalized
Upon reaching the scene, members of law enforcement were confronted with a deeply troubling situation. They discovered four children, all under the age of 10, with lacerations on their bodies within one of the apartment’s bedrooms. According to officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, this finding resulted in a profoundly distressing situation. LASD Lieutenant Danile Vizcarra explained, “Two of the children had injuries that were not life-threatening, whereas the other two children suffered severe lacerations.”
The four children were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where tragically, two succumbed to their injuries
The remaining two children are reported to be in stable condition. In response to this horrific incident, authorities have taken into custody Prospero Serna, the biological father of all four victims, accusing him of murder and fatal child abuse.
The sheriff’s statement confirmed, “Homicide detectives determined there was sufficient evidence to arrest Prospero Serna for the crimes of murder and fatal child abuse.” However, Serna’s uncooperative behavior has caused delays in the booking process, despite his detention on Sunday.
It was not until Monday morning that authorities officially announced his arrest. For those with information relevant to this devastating case, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau can be reached at (323) 890-5500.
