Eric McCarthy, an experienced elk guide, and Reichel, his client, reported witnessing a nocturnal excavation in Elk County, Pennsylvania, in March 2018

Eric McCarthy described seeing an excavator parked in the vicinity, small equipment in motion on the hillside, and a noticeable gash in the earth. Eric McCarthy also noted people gathered under a canopy around 5 a.m., directly contradicting the FBI’s timeline, which indicates their team arrived at 8 a.m. that day.

This contentious claim has been brought forth amidst a legal battle initiated by treasure seekers Dennis and Kem Parada, who sued the FBI for alleged non-disclosure of excavation records and contested the Bureau’s assertion that the dig yielded no results. The released documents regarding the 1863 lost gold cache raise further questions about what was truly uncovered in Dents Run, Pennsylvania.

Eric McCarthy, who vouched for the integrity of Parada’s pursuit, expressed his conviction that justice has not been served

He recounted an encounter with heavily laden armored trucks during lunch, one appearing conspicuously burdened. Eric McCarthy emphasized his familiarity with overloaded vehicles and asserted that the truck was “loaded to the gills.”

While the FBI vehemently denies conducting any unauthorized nighttime dig, maintaining that only routine ATV patrols were conducted for site security, the Paradas argue that crucial information has been withheld or manipulated. They seek the release of operational records and highlight the absence of timestamps in the FBI-released photographs, which they claim raises suspicion of a deliberate cover-up.

The saga of the lost Civil War gold, initially sparked by Dennis Parada’s discovery in 2004, continues to be shrouded in controversy and intrigue.
