Three seven-year-old students from College Gardens Elementary School in Rockville, Maryland were hospitalized after they ingested a controlled substance, according to police.
Students Thought that the Blue Items Were Candies
The students believed that the blue items they found were candy and briefly ingested them before spitting them out. The three students began to feel dizzy, prompting them to go to the school nurse who then called 911. They were then transported to local hospitals as a precaution.
Although none of the items were recovered, police suspect that they may have been a methamphetamine-related drug like Adderall or MDMA, based on the toxicology of some of the victims, according to a published article in FOX News.
Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones said that he was relieved that the students will ultimately be fine but added that the incident was frightening. He also hopes that it serves as a powerful motivator for parents to have difficult conversations with their children about the dangers of taking or eating unknown substances.
Police Officers are Investigating the Incident
The students have been discharged from the hospital and are currently at home with their families. Police said that the incident is still under investigation.
Montgomery County Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the source of the substances and how they ended up in the elementary school. Investigators are interviewing students, staff, and parents as part of their efforts to gather information about the incident.
In response to the incident, the school district has released a statement emphasizing the importance of school safety and security. The district is working closely with the police department to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
