Opposition Leader In Senegalese Was Arrested And Supporters And Security Forces Were In Conflict After Sympathizers Caused Chaos. An Officer Was Killed And Many Others Were Injured.
Clash between Security forces and Supporters
Sympathizers of Ousmane Sonko gathered in Sonko’s home to express their support and protect their leader from arrest, just a day before the trial of his rape case against a woman who said he sexually assaulted. Officer’s were deployed and the fight began between the two parties began, an officer died when he was hit by the armored vehicle and many others on the sympathizer’s side were also injured in the conflict.
Supporters gathered on a Sunday evening scared that Police will arrest Sonko. If convicted, he will face 10 years of imprisonment and will be prohibited to run for Presidency. He already served a 6-month suspension after a defamation case against him and vowed to resist any court summons.
