Bart and Krista Halderson had two adored sons and the perfect marriage: a lovely home in Windsor, Wisconsin. Chandler, 23, a college student living at home, and Mitchell, 24, both of whom worked in technology.
Here’s what happened
In an interview posted in CBS News, Chandler had high expectations. He spoke excitedly about his new job at Space X, a company founded by one of the richest people in the world, Elon Musk, as well as his recent completion of an IT degree and promising internship at an insurance company. Additionally, Chandler discussed his upcoming IT degree and his intriguing internship.
The Haldersons’ lives appeared to be going according to plan. Daniel Kroninger remembers getting worried on Friday, July 2, when Krista just did not show up at the office.
How rare was it for Krista to simply not show up for work, without even calling ahead, Erin Moriarty questioned? How peculiar?
Unusually, Daniel Kroninger provided an answer.
In addition to working together, Kroninger and Krista were good friends.
She hadn’t mentioned anything to me, so I thought, “Well, that’s kind of weird,” you know. Daniel Kroninger remarked that it wasn’t anything she would ever do.
Kroninger claims he repeatedly texted and contacted her but received no answer. He and his girlfriend arrived at the Halderson house later that day. They are captured on video by a neighbor.
After knocking on the door and hearing nothing, Daniel Kroninger looked through the window. The only oddity was a coffee table that was turned on its side. When you look through the entrance, you can see that there was a fireplace somewhat off to the right.
Then, according to Kroninger, he moved closer to the garage window.

Developing Story for Chandler-Halderson Case
Dan Kroninger peered inside. There were both cars. He asked, “What?” and wondered why both cars were there. We’re just looking for Bart and Krista, and as he was beginning to circle the back of the house, Chandler appeared from the side door, dressed in a towel and saying, “Oh, I just got outta the shower,” you know, “hey what’s going on.” He added, “Oh yeah, they went… had to go up north this morning for an emergency up at the cabin.”
Based on Crime Traveller, Kroninger said that finding out that Bart and Krista were at the family cabin made him feel better. He communicated with Chandler during the long weekend to check if he had heard from his parents.
Chandler allegedly called Kroninger on Sunday, July 4, and complained about being bored and in need of a distraction. Dan then asked Chandler about his parents and extended an invitation to come watch the fireworks with him.
On Monday and Tuesday, Krista failed to arrive at work. By Wednesday, July 7, when nothing had been spoken. Dan was aware of a problem.
Chandler was pressured by Kroninger to report a missing individual that morning.
In one of our precincts, Chandler Halderson came to report the disappearance of his parents. The squad would search for the missing pair under the direction of detectives Sabrina Sims and Brian Shunk from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
Barbi Townsend, Krista’s first cousin who resides in southern California, only knew about Chandler Halderson, 23, who had phoned the police and reported that his parents were missing while deputies started questioning neighbors and acquaintances from what she had seen on the TV.
Bart and Krista had kept their plans to visit the cabin that weekend a secret from their employers and their oldest son Mitchell. But according to Chandler, his parents were picked up and driven there by an unidentified pair.
The cabin was a prized family heritage and a secluded, primitive lakeside refuge. It was erected in the 1940s by the grandparents of Barbi and Krista.
Mitchell and his fiancée traveled three hours up north the day after Chandler reported his parents missing to check if they had left any clues.
In anticipation of the worst, the police were waiting for Mitchell and his fiancee at the cottage.
