The American fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and its appendices. The series, created by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay for Amazon Prime Video, takes place thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in the Second Age of Middle-earth.
Amazon Studios is producing it alongside the Tolkien Estate, the Tolkien Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. Amazon paid US$250 million for the rights to adapt The Lord of the Rings for television in November 2017, committing to produce at least US$1 billion over the course of five seasons.
That sum would make it more expensive than any other TV show in history. In July of 2018, Payne and McKay were recruited. The series is mostly based on The Lord of the Rings appendices, which feature discussion of the Second Age, and is not a continuation of the Lord of the Rings or Hobbit film trilogies as per the terms of Amazon’s arrangement with the Tolkien Estate.
Controversy
Producer Lindsey Weber of the Prime Video fantasy series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has commented on the backlash over Galadriel’s armour. After a fan questioned the controversy surrounding Galadriel’s armour, the showrunners were prompted to discuss the matter, and the producer let viewers know that the armour they’d seen in the trailer might not even be hers.

Shrewd viewers have apparently noted that Galadriel’s armour looks somewhat like the star of the House of Fanor, as reported by Screen Rant. It is said that the elf has a long-standing grudge towards the Fanors and so would never wear the eight-pointed star.

Lindsey Weber’s Reaction May Have Clarified the Situation
Fans still don’t know who the armour belongs to or why it was given to Galadriel. During the panel, a new image from The Rings of Power dropped, featuring Pistol’s Anson Boon as one of Sauron’s incarnations. The most costly TV show ever filmed will detail how the desire to control Middle-earth through the Rings of Power led to avarice, violence, and bloodshed.
Creators of TV shows defend the status quo of their industries’ power structures. Producer Patrick McKay, speaking to Total Film, refuted claims that politics would influence Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. He said they were going for something “timeless,” though he didn’t elaborate.

Tolkien was not making any sort of observation on the past, either his own or that of another era. A message about modern politics was not what he was trying to convey. Because of this, he set out to develop mythos that could be applied to any era and any culture.
For us as viewers, it was essential that every creative decision we made while developing the show adhered to this goal.
We’d like not to make any changes that could make the content seem stale. We hope to be remembered for all time. To this day, most of the content of these books remains relevant because it has not changed significantly over time.
We hope to achieve the same thing. We believe that audiences will share this enthusiasm after watching the show for themselves and learning more about the show’s stories, characters, and universes.
Let’s just take his word for it. We need to go into the programme with optimism, even if it ends up being as dismal as The Wheel of Time, or otherwise, we’ll never succeed. Amazon isn’t perfect, but they did release some excellent new shows this month.

Release
In August of 2022, premiere ceremonies were held in Los Angeles, Mexico City, Mumbai, and New York City to broadcast the first two episodes. Free screenings for fans will take place in over 200 countries on August 31. These nations include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Argentina, Colombia, Australia, and New Zealand.
On September 1st, the episodes debuted on Prime Video in the United States. From September 9 through October 14, we’ll be treating you to the last six episodes of the first season.
