Originally from the O’Meara family, Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan (born March 30, 1965) works in broadcasting, journalism, writing, and television in England. In 1988, he began working on Fleet Street at The Sun.
Career
At the age of 29, he became the youngest editor of a British national newspaper when Rupert Murdoch appointed him editor of the News of the World in 1994. Having served as the Daily Mirror’s editor beginning in 1995, Morgan was eventually let go in 2004. Between 2006 and 2007, he served as the head editor of First News.
Before hosting Piers Morgan Live on CNN from 2011 to 2014, Morgan was the host of the ITV discussion shows Life Stories from 2009 to 2021. Beyond her judging gigs on America’s Got Talent (2006-2010) and Britain’s Got Talent (2015-2021), Piers Morgan co-hosted the ITV morning show Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid from 2015 to 2021. (2007–2010). He appeared on The Celebrity Apprentice US alongside Trump and won in 2008.
Controversy
Despite what he calls a “farce,” Piers Morgan’s sensational departure from ITV’s Good Morning Britain last year “focused everyone’s minds” on free speech. After the controversy over his remarks regarding the Duchess of Sussex, the host is ready to debut his own television show.
The new TalkTV network will broadcast Piers Morgan Unfiltered in the United Kingdom in addition to the United States and Australia. He “censored” ITV, he said, too. The company has previously stated that it supports free speech. Following his March 2017 declaration that he “didn’t trust a word” Meghan had said in an appearance with Oprah Winfrey, Morgan resigned from the breakfast show.
Morgan, in an interview before the premiere of his new program
Piers Morgan said: “When I was still working at Good Morning Britain, I foolishly believed I was free from censorship. However, after I resigned, I learned that I had been subjected to a form of censorship when I was told to apologize for expressing my scepticism of Princess Pinocchio or be fired.
“I decided to leave the building, which was a terrible time for both me and the performance. Unfortunately, I think ITV made the incorrect decision.
“It was a little over the top, but of course what it really accomplished was focus everyone’s minds on, ‘what is free speech?'” The 57-year-old promised to “uncancel those who have been canceled” on his new TalkTV show.

ITV claims Morgan made the choice to quit Good Morning Britain
The network has accepted that. Morgan said, “I thought the whole thing was a joke, and I’m glad that actually as a result of the farce, we’ve ended up with a whole network which is now committed to avoiding that type of farce from reoccurring.”
He defined the parameters of his new show and his stance on free speech by saying, “You shouldn’t be embarrassed, blamed, or canceled for having an opinion unless you are actually spewing vile, prejudiced crap.”
Also, he said “The location of this boundary has been established. You can disagree with someone strongly and even be brutally critical of them without resorting to an all-out argument. There’s no limit to the nicknames you can give me. I have no problem with that.
“That’s canceled culture right there, though; Meghan Markle tried to have me fired on Good Morning Britain by writing a letter to ITV’s CEO demanding my head. “And the idea that ITV caved in is completely absurd. However, it is why I am here, and I suppose I should be thankful to them because I find this to be a fantastic new medium and opportunity.”
Because Morgan’s views were balanced by co-presenters who opposed him, Ofcom ruled against ITV. His “apparent indifference” to suicide was criticized by the regulator after the Duchess of Sussex opened up about her own struggles with mental health.
