Despite scoring against Rangers at Ibrox in Liverpool’s 7-1 victory, BT Sport commentators Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen said that Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez does not look like a player in form and criticized him for looking untidy in the final third.
In Wednesday 12 October 2022’s game against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad, the 23-year-old Nunez was given the nod in goal. This follows Nunez scoring his third goal for Liverpool on Sunday against Arsenal. He scored his fourth goal of the season for Liverpool at Ibrox.
Scott Arfield scored the game-winning goal for the Rangers. It didn’t take long, though, for Roberto Firmino to tie the score, and then he scored again to make it 2-1 for the Brazilians. His sublime pass set up Nunez for a goal by the Uruguayan, and he was subsequently replaced.
Liverpool went up to six with two goals from Mo Salah within six minutes, and then Harvey Elliot added a seventh. The Reds seemed to be playing at their most fluid level again. On the other hand, Owen and Ferdinand have not yet been won over by Nunez.
Nunez’s goal was crucial. On the other hand, I found him to be quite disheveled, though I do admire his gait and his galloping runs. But the final product isn’t there,” Owen said. Ferdinand continued, “He is snatching, nothing looks clean. A strong ending, though.
The Liverpool Striker Nunez Has Been Criticised by Ferdinand and Owen
Even if Nunez is not quite at his best right now, he is still putting the ball in the net, so that is not exactly something to knock him for. It was a classy, clinical goal that put the Reds up 3-1. The help from Firmino, but also Nunez’s coolness in dribbling past Allan McGregor.
Incredible. If he keeps scoring once per game, his self-assurance will rise. He’ll convince himself that he can be Liverpool’s starting striker. Considering his rough start, he might not believe that just yet, but he will.
