Greg Mathis Jr. wishes to follow in his father’s footsteps by assisting people. In a preview of the July 17 episode of EMathis !’s Family Matters, Judge Greg Mathis’ son takes the next step in publicly coming out as homosexual by meeting with GLAAD’s Vice President of Communications and Talent Anthony Ramos.
As Anthony begins, Greg Jr. adds, “And he has a pretty conservative support base.” As for Greg Jr. and Elliott, Anthony Ramos informs them that they’ll have to deal with the media attention as a couple when they come out. Greg Jr. wants to be an advocate for his community, in addition to being completely honest about his sexual orientation.
Greg Jr. says this about his father:
“His experience is in civil rights advocacy. He fights for equal rights for everyone, including the LGBTQ community. So when I informed him that I wanted to go public with my sexuality in order to encourage others and genuinely tell my narrative, he was pleased with that.”
Nevertheless, Greg Jr. pushed me and said, ‘You have to be that activist,’” explains Greg. If you don’t, you’ll never get there.”
In a flashback, the Judge tells his son
Greg Mathis” tells his son You have an obligation to show others and to help others and to pull them up.” “I see where he’s coming from. Insinuating that he wants me to make an enormous difference. I’m not sure if I’m there yet, but even being able to communicate more openly about myself is a major step.”
When asked how he feels about all the attention, Elliott says, “I thought of absolutely staying in the background.” However, he comes to realize that he also wants to help others. For example, “Somebody in the South that has the same predicament that I’m dealing with,” he mused.
