You can expect to read about Jada Pinkett Smith’s “unconventional background,” her “climb to prominence” with her pal Tupac Shakur, her “falling in love” with husband Will Smith, and much more when the book is released.
Jada Pinkett Smith is prepared to open up about her experiences. Actress and host of Red Table Talk Ellen DeGeneres, 51, has signed a book deal with Dey Street Books, an imprint of the William MorrowGroup at HarperCollins Publishers, to release her memoir in fall 2023.
A press release for the book describes it as “a rollercoaster trip from the depths of suicidal melancholy to the heights of personal rediscovery and the celebration of real feminine power,” and it is a “chronicle of lessons learned in the course of a painful but enthralling journey.”
“Without holding back, Jada discloses the unconventional details of her upbringing in Baltimore, from the child of two addicts to a promising theatre student and a violent interlude as a petty drug dealer, then a parallel rise to stardom alongside her close friend 2Pac, then falling in love with and marrying Will Smith, and finally embracing motherhood with joy.”
According to The Press Release
The star of Girls Trip discusses how she was “in crisis at age 40” and “recounts the agonizing choices she was forced to make to remake her life in every manner.”
The book’s synopsis says that its central themes are “two unexpected love stories,” one being Jada’s troubled marriage to Will Smith, and the other being her relationship with herself.
Carrie Thornton, vice president and editorial director of Dey Street Books, who negotiated the contract with CAA, notes in a statement, “Jada Pinkett Smith has been the subject of numerous stereotypes and stories. This is because of gender stereotypes and the constraints of the media landscape in which we live.”
“Behind all the rumors and fabrications is a lady who, like so many others, has struggled to find a balance between her own needs and those of the people she cares about. Through her autobiography, Jada shares her story of transformation from a lonely teen into a fiercely independent lady “Thornton chimes in with some clarification. That’s a huge privilege for me to go through with her.
Will Smith, Smith’s 54-year-old husband, co-authored a best-selling memoir with Mark Manson titled Will in November 2021.
