Los Angeles, CA – Strong, northeast winds and low humidity have placed Ventura and Los Angeles counties under a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Red Flag Warning through Wednesday. Officials are urging residents to prepare for critical fire weather conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Los Angeles, wind gusts could reach 45-70 mph, combined with 8-15% relative humidity. The warning is in effect from Tuesday at 4 a.m. until Wednesday at noon, covering much of western Los Angeles County and Ventura County. This creates extreme fire risks, as these conditions could quickly spark and spread fires.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to avoid activities that could ignite fires, such as outdoor grilling or using machinery that may produce sparks. Authorities recommend having multiple ways to receive evacuation notifications and preparing wildfire action plans in advance.
The NWS has highlighted that while this week’s winds are weaker than previous events, they are still strong enough to cause explosive fire growth. They urge residents to stay alert, especially in foothill and canyon areas prone to wind funneling.
For updates and evacuation alerts, officials advise monitoring weather.gov and local news outlets. It is also crucial to stay connected via NOAA weather radios or alerts on mobile devices.
This warning comes as California braces for another round of hazardous fire weather, emphasizing the importance of preparedness.
