Binghamton, NY – A cold front is set to sweep through New York Monday afternoon, bringing widespread snow showers and dangerous travel conditions. Lake effect snow is forecasted to intensify Tuesday and Wednesday, with parts of northern Oneida County expecting over seven inches of accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service, west-northwest winds off Lake Ontario will drive the lake effect snow, with the heaviest snowfall occurring Tuesday night into Wednesday. Snow showers are likely to create slick roadways, especially along I-81 and secondary routes in the region. Drivers should remain cautious, as gusty winds may reduce visibility and cause drifting snow.
Monday’s high in Binghamton is expected to reach 36 degrees before temperatures plunge into the teens by Monday night. A chance of light snow continues through Monday evening, but heavier snowfall is anticipated late Tuesday. By Wednesday, highs will remain near 22 degrees with more snow showers likely.
The NWS warns that snow squalls and icy conditions could make travel hazardous for those commuting or heading to local events. Residents are encouraged to prepare emergency kits for their vehicles and plan for delays on major roadways.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain frigid through Thursday, with daytime highs struggling to surpass 25 degrees. While snowfall tapers off by the weekend, the chance of snow showers persists.
