Milwaukee, WI – Freezing drizzle, light snow, and gusty winds are creating hazardous driving conditions across southeast Wisconsin today, including I-43 and local highways. Drivers are urged to proceed cautiously as slick roads and limited visibility are expected to linger into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing drizzle will begin in the early morning hours Sunday, tapering into light snow throughout the afternoon. A light glaze of ice is anticipated, making travel especially dangerous in areas like Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, and Milwaukee. Gusty northwest winds may worsen visibility Sunday night into Monday, particularly on open roads.
Flurries will likely diminish by Sunday evening, but freezing temperatures in the single digits Monday morning will refreeze wet surfaces. Wind chills as low as -5°F are forecast, adding to concerns for commuters. Monday’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and highs around 15°F.
Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday will bring sunny conditions but frigid daytime highs in the mid-teens. Overnight lows will plunge into single digits, increasing the risk of icy roads throughout the workweek.
Residents should allow extra travel time, avoid sudden braking, and check road conditions before heading out. Officials remind drivers to reduce speed and increase following distances to minimize accidents.
