Binghamton, NY – Drivers along I-81 should prepare for snow showers Monday as lake effect snow and cold air move into the region. Minimal accumulation of 1–2 inches is forecast, but strong winds will create hazardous travel conditions, especially during peak hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, Monday’s high is expected to reach 36°F before temperatures drop significantly by evening. Overnight, lows will plummet to the low 20s, with a wind chill making it feel even colder. Additional snow showers are expected late Monday and into Tuesday, with chances increasing to 40%.
By Tuesday, the high will struggle to reach 22°F, as frigid winds and periodic snow showers dominate. Commuters and residents should use caution on untreated roads and plan extra travel time. Those traveling near Lake Ontario could see more significant snow accumulation later in the week.
The extended forecast calls for sub-freezing temperatures through Friday. Highs will range between 22–33°F, with overnight lows dipping to 13°F midweek. Snow showers are possible each day through Thursday, accompanied by strong gusts that may lead to reduced visibility.
