Omaha, NE – Residents of eastern Nebraska should prepare for a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow today into this evening. The National Weather Service warns that icy conditions could create slick roads, including stretches of I-80. Drivers are advised to use caution, as untreated surfaces may become hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain and light snow are expected to develop Saturday afternoon, with accumulations remaining under an inch. However, isolated slick spots may form, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Temperatures will hover around 38°F during the day but fall to 29°F tonight.

Sunday will bring partly sunny skies and calmer conditions, with highs reaching 19°F. However, a sharp cold snap begins Sunday night as temperatures plunge to 5°F. Wind chills as cold as -15°F are forecast for Monday and Tuesday mornings, making frostbite a risk for exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

Looking ahead, Monday will stay frigid with highs near 23°F. Tuesday promises sunny skies but remains cold, with a high of 23°F and a low of 13°F overnight. Warmer temperatures are expected by Wednesday, reaching 34°F.

Travelers should monitor updates for potential weather advisories and take precautions to stay safe in the cold. Be sure to dress warmly, keep a winter survival kit in your vehicle, and avoid unnecessary travel during icy conditions.
