Freezing fog is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across North Texas overnight into Saturday morning. Drivers are urged to use caution as visibility could drop below a quarter-mile, and icy patches may develop on untreated surfaces.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a Freezing Fog Advisory effective until 9 a.m. Saturday. The advisory covers areas including Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, and Gainesville, as well as major routes such as Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 75. Officials warn of potential slick spots on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways due to freezing fog and black ice.

According to the NWS, freezing fog could deposit a thin layer of ice on exposed surfaces, making travel hazardous. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra following distance. Visibility may drop to less than three miles in some areas, adding to the danger.

In addition to the freezing fog, lingering moisture from recent precipitation could freeze overnight, compounding the risk of black ice. Travelers should exercise extreme caution during the early morning hours, particularly in rural and elevated areas.

Conditions are expected to improve by late Saturday morning as temperatures rise above freezing. A warming trend is forecast for the coming days, with highs in the mid-40s on Saturday and climbing to the 50s by Sunday, offering relief from the icy conditions.
