Wichita, KS – A winter storm brought significant snowfall to Kansas late Thursday into Friday morning, impacting roads and daily routines. Wichita recorded some of the highest totals, with over 7 inches reported in several areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, snowfall totals peaked at 7.1 inches just west-southwest of East Wichita. Nearby locations, such as Harper and East Wichita, saw accumulations of 7.0 and 6.8 inches, respectively. Areas along the Kansas Turnpike experienced the heaviest snowfall.

Cities surrounding Wichita also reported significant accumulation. Maize recorded 6.3 inches, while Whitewater saw 6.1 inches. Snowfall tapered off further east, with Augusta measuring 4.5 inches and Coffeyville recording 2.2 inches.

Officials warn drivers to remain cautious as icy roads and reduced visibility persist in affected areas. Plow crews are actively working to clear major roadways, but many secondary streets remain covered. Travel conditions may improve later today as temperatures stabilize.

The storm also brought colder temperatures and gusty winds, which may contribute to wind chills below freezing through the weekend. Residents are urged to dress warmly and limit outdoor activities.

Forecasters expect calmer weather heading into the weekend, with no significant storms predicted. However, scattered flurries may occur in some areas. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates for potential changes.
