Charleston, SC – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through noon today for Allendale County, SC, and surrounding areas. Freezing rain could coat roads and bridges with ice, creating hazardous driving conditions. Local officials urge drivers to slow down and use caution.
According to the National Weather Service Charleston, freezing rain began early this morning and is expected to taper off by midday. The affected areas include parts of southeastern Georgia, such as Jenkins and Screven counties, and extend into Allendale County, SC. A light coating of ice on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses is most likely.
Temperatures will hover near freezing, with highs reaching 46°F by afternoon, offering some relief. However, rain will persist into tonight, increasing in intensity and accompanied by gusty winds up to 23 mph. Overnight lows will reach 41°F, with up to half an inch of rainfall possible.
The weekend will bring milder temperatures, with Saturday expected to clear by mid-morning. Highs will climb to 52°F under partly sunny skies, but gusty winds up to 22 mph could make it feel cooler. Sunday looks calm and sunny, with a high near 51°F.
For those traveling on major roads like U.S. Route 301 and State Route 125, drive carefully today and stay informed about changing conditions. Ice accumulation may remain a concern until temperatures rise this afternoon.
