Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota residents should prepare for a snowy and blustery weekend as forecasters predict at least two inches of snow across the region. Lake effect snow near Lake Superior is likely to cause higher accumulations in localized areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, snowfall is expected to begin Saturday afternoon and continue through Sunday evening. The heaviest snowfall is projected Saturday night into early Sunday, with a 70% chance of precipitation. Winds gusting up to 20 mph will lead to reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions, particularly on Highway 61 and other routes along the North Shore.
Temperatures will drop steadily over the weekend, with highs on Saturday around 21°F and lows reaching 2°F by Sunday night. Monday will bring even colder conditions, with highs only reaching 5°F and wind chills dropping into the negative teens.
Residents are encouraged to limit travel during peak snowfall hours and to prepare vehicles with winter essentials. Those venturing out should exercise caution, as icy patches and blowing snow will make driving treacherous.
Looking ahead, calmer weather is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, with sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures returning midweek. However, the brief reprieve may be short-lived, as another chance of snow appears on the horizon for late next week.
