Nashville, TN – A major winter storm is set to blanket Middle Tennessee with 6-8 inches of snow starting early Friday. Officials warn of significant travel disruptions across the region as snowfall intensifies.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville, snow will begin around 3 a.m. Friday and last through Saturday morning. The heaviest accumulation is expected late Friday morning into the afternoon. Roads, especially rural ones, may become treacherous as snow quickly covers surfaces.

Forecasters predict widespread accumulations of 4-8 inches, with higher totals of 6-8 inches likely in areas like Nashville, Clarksville, and Waverly. Snowfall rates may peak during Friday evening’s rush hour, further complicating travel. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing overnight, preserving snow and ice.

Some melting may occur during daylight hours over the weekend, with highs above freezing expected Sunday and Monday. However, colder nighttime temperatures will refreeze wet surfaces, creating slick spots through early next week.

Residents should prepare for hazardous road conditions, including snow-covered highways and reduced visibility. The NWS advises limiting travel unless necessary and checking road conditions before heading out.

The storm’s impacts could extend into Sunday as cold temperatures linger. Officials urge caution for those traveling, especially on untreated roads. For updates, the NWS will host a live briefing at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Stay informed by monitoring weather alerts and preparing for potential power outages. Snow accumulation and freezing conditions could affect services through the weekend.
