VA loans for home purchase are one method that the government can assist veterans.

VA loans are a reward for active-duty and veteran military personnel as well as some surviving spouses. They are backed by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. You can submit an application for a VA loan if:

  • You have completed 90 days of nonstop service while on active duty.
  • You’re a veteran who satisfies the requirements for length of service, which are normally 181 days during peacetime and 90 days during war.
  • You served 90 days on active duty or six honourable years in the National Guard or Selected Reserve.
  • You had not remarried and are a surviving partner of a veteran who passed away while serving in the armed forces or from a disability related to their service. Alternatively, you got married again after turning 57 or on December 16, 2003. The spouses of military personnel who are prisoners of battle or have gone missing in action are also qualified.
