Michael Anthony Holland, 36, was found unresponsive during normal security inspections early Wednesday morning at Fulton County Jail and confirmed dead. The correctional staff tried to save lives until advanced medical personnel came but failed. Holland was then pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Death of Fulton County Jail Inmate Sparks Investigation
Holland’s legal difficulties began on May 4, 2023, when East Point Police detained him. Aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer while on duty and three counts of deliberate obstruction by threats or violence were his charges. Holland was jailed on a $55,000 bond at Rice Street Jail since his arrest.
The Atlanta Police Department is investigating Holland’s death, and the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy.
This incident raises concerns about the Fulton County Jail, which has been under investigation since October 2023 when Georgia senators announced a probe into the facility after the Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction killed 10 inmates, nine of whom died in the jail.
