In a startling revelation at an emergency UN Security Council meeting, the United States has accused Russia of orchestrating a deliberate distraction. While diverting global attention to a decade-old discussion on Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity, Moscow was allegedly gearing up for its largest-ever air assault on Ukrainian cities. The accusation came from John Kelley, Political Minister Counsellor to the US Mission to the UN, who termed Russia’s actions preposterous and urged Council members to condemn the unfolding crisis.
Alleged Distraction Maneuvers
The US representative, Kelley, denounced Russia’s recent Council meeting, asserting it was a ploy to divert attention from its ominous preparations. The focus on past events, he claimed, was a smokescreen for Moscow’s planning of a significant aerial attack against Ukraine, including its cities and critical infrastructure.
Kelley emphasized the urgency of recognizing Russia’s diversionary tactics, linking them to the simultaneous execution of a massive air assault. The alleged distraction, he argued, allowed Russia to execute its assault without immediate global scrutiny.

Unprecedented Air Assault on Ukraine
On December 29, Russia reportedly launched its most extensive air attack on Ukraine, hitting major cities like Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa. The Ukrainian Air Force responded, successfully downing a significant number of Russian air targets.
The aftermath of the assault revealed a grim toll, with casualties reported by the President’s Office and Interior Minister Klymenko. Kelley urged UN Council members to condemn the attacks, highlighting the destructive impact on civilian infrastructure and innocent lives.
This revelation underscores the gravity of the situation in Ukraine, as the international community grapples with Russia’s alleged diversionary tactics and the devastating consequences of the air assault.
