The freedom to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the 2nd amendment is established in American society, and the Lone Star State takes this right seriously. Texas became one of the states that permitted open carry of guns in 2016, permitting license holders to openly exhibit their weapons in public.
Nonetheless, there is still uncertainty and disagreement regarding police relations with open-carry advocates. In Texas, is it enough for law enforcement to just stop anyone from openly having a handgun? Like other legal issues, the solution is complex and depends on a detailed knowledge of applicable laws and rights under the Constitution.
Officially referred to as House Bill 910, the Texas Open Carry Law became operative in January 2016.
