Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for several Northeast Ohio counties, including Ashtabula Lakeshore, Cuyahoga, Lake, Medina, Portage, Summit, and Trumbull. FOX 8’s GroundFox ventured out on Monday night, capturing footage of slippery winter storm conditions and vehicles sliding on Geauga County roads. The hazardous weather has led to road closures and accidents, with the left shoulder of I-71 North near Strongsville shut down due to a crash. In another incident, the right shoulder of I-480 East beyond I-480N East is blocked, warranting drivers to steer clear of the area. A significant power outage impact has been reported, affecting more than 1,600 Lorain County customers and 600 Cuyahoga County customers as of 10:20 p.m., according to FirstEnergy.
The winter storm conditions disruptive reach extends further, with the northbound lanes of State Route 8 completely closed between the Ohio Turnpike and Hines Hill Road following an accident, as announced by Hudson city officials
Simultaneously, the Ohio Department of Transportation reports the closure of two right lanes on I-271/US-422 East at I-271 South due to a crash. Meanwhile, reduced speeds are being enforced on I-90 East and West, as confirmed by ODOT.
Responding to the challenging winter storm conditions, the Ohio Department of Transportation deployed over 800 crews around 6 p.m. to address slick spots on roadways. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, slow down, and maintain ample distance from work crews. As winter storm conditions persist, residents are advised to stay informed about road closures, accidents, and power outages, taking necessary precautions to ensure safety during this challenging weather event.
