Police reported Tuesday that Gino Hagenkotter, the convict who escaped a work detail over two weeks ago, was found dead in a Philadelphia warehouse.
Philadelphia Prison Escapee Found Dead in Warehouse
The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as 34-year-old Gino Hagenkotter, a larceny and burglary convict. He escaped on November 30 while working in the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center orchard.
Hagenkotter escaped prison after asking his guard for a potty break, jumping a fence, and leaving. Cameras saw him taking off his jumpsuit and walking down the street.
Hagenkotter was found deceased in a warehouse by police on Monday. Broken air vents and pushed-out fans indicated forceful entry. Death is under investigation by police.
Fourth Prison Break This Year
The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office fingerprint analysis identified Hagenkotter, and the U.S. Marshals Service Philadelphia notified his family. Due to retail theft allegations, his transitional program release was canceled on the day he escaped.
Officials suspect his escape was influenced by the release cancellation and extended prison term. Hagenkotter is the fourth Philadelphia prison escapee this year, following two men, one a murder suspect, who escaped the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center in May but were ultimately caught.
