According to a recently unsealed indictment by federal prosecutors, Bob Menendez, and his wife are accused of playing a role in the bribery plot, and investigators have retrieved multiple gold bars from Bob Menendez’s home, believed to be used as payment in the illicit scheme. Notably, at least four of these gold bars have been traced back to Daibes, identified through engraved serial numbers and court documents related to a 2013 robbery in which Daibes was a victim.

An NBC New York investigation further uncovered transcripts of Daibes stating that each gold bar possesses a unique serial number. Photographs released by the Department of Justice in September confirm the existence of gold bars with serial numbers corresponding to those reported stolen by Daibes.
The federal indictment explicitly notes the connection, stating, “approximately two one-kilogram gold bars and nine one-ounce gold bars” found in Bob Menendez’s residence had serial numbers indicating prior possession by Daibes. Despite these damning revelations, Bob Menendez, who has consistently proclaimed his innocence since the bribery indictment was unveiled, remains in the Senate, emphasizing that the allegations are mere accusations and expressing confidence in his eventual exoneration.
