A social media post recently went viral, suggesting that a fourth stimulus check might arrive in December

However, the IRS swiftly refuted these claims, clarifying that no authorization for a fourth stimulus check of Economic Impact Payments has been granted. IRS spokesperson Anthony Burke emphasized that the most recent fourth stimulus checks were part of the American Rescue Plan, a colossal $2 trillion stimulus package signed into law by President Biden in 2021. Contrary to the social media post’s assertions, Burke confirmed that no new round of fourth stimulus checks is in the pipeline.

For those who missed out on the third stimulus check or didn’t receive the full amount, the IRS recommends claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit. This credit is available to individuals who missed one or more Economic Impact Payments issued in 2020 and 2021. The IRS estimates that some individuals and families remain eligible for these payments.

To access funds through the Recovery Rebate Credit, taxpayers must file a tax return by specific deadlines: May 17, 2024, for the 2020 credit and April 15, 2025, for the 2021 credit

Despite claims in the fourth stimulus check viral post, the Recovery Rebate Credit does not automatically deposit funds into bank accounts; individuals must file a tax return to receive the credit. AP News indicates that some states listed in the social media post-Alabama, Arizona, Maryland, New York, Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, and Texas are expected to issue tax-related payments in the upcoming weeks and months.
