First STI At-Home Test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Approved But Sexual Health Advocates Object to Its Benefits
The first STI at-home test for chlamydia and gonorrhea was finally approved, but several sexual health advocates objected to its reported benefits and claimed that the STI at-home test would only put more people at higher risk.
According to a report published in NBC News, the STI at-home test would expand its coverage but would not cover screening syphilis despite the increasing cases of syphilis, possibly leading to tragic deaths if people were not able to detect the infections through the STI at-home test.
With the STI at-home test, sexual health advocates revealed that high demands would increase the price of the available STI at-home test, which would only lead to additional barriers between individuals and public health testing itself.
