Russian President Vladimir Putin has taken a strategic approach in response to the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas, using the situation to advance his vision of a new world order that challenges U.S. dominance

He emphasized this perspective during talks with Iraq‘s prime minister, criticizing the U.S. attempt to monopolize the settlement process. Experts suggest that Russian President Vladimir Putin aims to differentiate Russia from the U.S. and the EU, especially given the close ties between the U.S. and Israel. By aligning with constituencies sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to bolster his standing in the court of global public opinion. Moscow‘s overt pro-Palestinian stance, however, has strained its traditionally close relationship with Israel, resulting in diplomatic tensions and mutual discontent.

The crisis also presents economic opportunities for Russia, with potential benefits from increased oil prices and the diversion of Western resources away from Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin positions Moscow as a potential peacemaker in the Middle East, offering to host a regional meeting of foreign ministers. However, Israel has expressed displeasure with Russia’s reception of a Hamas delegation, and tensions persist between the two countries.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin navigates the complexities of the Middle East conflict, he appears to prioritize aligning with anti-Western sentiments and leveraging the situation to further Russia’s global influence.
