In a devastating turn of events at Louisiana Tech University, one of the four women attacked in a seemingly random act on the campus has succumbed to her injuries, the university announced.
Jacoby Johnson, the 23-year-old suspect, was apprehended shortly after the attack and is now set to face charges of second-degree murder, along with attempted murder
Annie Richardson, who had been in critical condition since Monday’s assault, passed away on Tuesday evening, leaving the university community in mourning. Two other victims remain hospitalized, while a retired teacher sustained injuries but declined treatment. The university expressed condolences to Richardson’s family and emphasized the support of the close-knit community during this difficult time.

Eyewitnesses, including a Tech freshman, Colin Campbell, rushed to assist the victims, placing Richardson and another wounded woman into a vehicle for transport to the hospital. Jacoby Johnson, a senior at the university, had no prior indications of concerning behavior, according to Louisiana Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes.
The motive behind the seemingly senseless attack remains unclear, leaving both the university’s 11,000 students and Ruston’s 22,000 residents in shock. Counseling services are being provided to affected students, and a campus blood drive for the victims is scheduled for Thursday. The community remains united in grief as they try to make sense of this tragic incident involving Jacoby Johnson.
