The Biden administration is going to be authorized to give expedited employment authorizations to some immigrants living in Chicago.

According to the Chicago Tribune, a one-stop employment authorization facility will be used by the pilot program to treat roughly 150 migrants each day. It is anticipated that the initiative, which falls under the administration’s Resurrection Project, will grow in the upcoming days to assist migrants with finding homes and work.

At the beginning of November, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnston traveled to Washington with the other mayors to request work authorization. Additionally, they proposed a joint management strategy for migrants that mirrored the settlement of Ukrainian refugees.

Johnston noted that a large number of people are unable to work, which puts a burden on finances and forces them into shelters. The towns would need less federal assistance to help house them if they were to find employment.
