Strong, quickly varying electric field pulses are used in theta-burst transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TBS, to affect brain activity. Consider carefully “re-tuning” the brain, similar to how you would polish an instrument.
TBS comes in 2 different varieties and is not a one-size-fits-all method.
Continuous TBS (cTBS): This method continuously emits 3 magnetic bursts for a total of 40 seconds.
Intermittent TBS (iTBS): This variation distributes the same number of pulses across 190 seconds but in an erratic manner.
It’s important to understand that TBS isn’t unique to the medical industry. Prior research has been done on disorders like generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and it has even received FDA approval for the treatment of major depressive disorder.
