As per a new class action lawsuit brought by a husband and wife who worried about their “fiery death” on the latest flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu, United Airlines is “not able to properly care for the engines” of its outdated fleet of Boeing 777-200 aircraft, which is making passengers “fear about their lives”.

On June 21, 2023, Brandon Carroll and Sarah Jean Duprey were traveling to Hawaii on a United Airlines flight along with their 11-month-old child when the flight’s Boeing 777-200 engine began to emit smoke, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing shortly after takeoff.

Brandon and Sarah claim in a recent complaint issued in a district court in California that they were in “severe psychological distress” for approximately 25 minutes as they worried they might die while the plane was rerouted back to LAX.
