In a post on Truth Social, Trump questioned whether Congressman Jamaal Bowman would face legal consequences for “dangerously pulling and activating the main fire alarm system” during an ongoing Congressional vote in D.C., labeling it a “horrible display of nerve and criminality.”

Trump‘s statement followed Jamaal Bowman’s admission that he inadvertently set off a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building as he rushed to vote on a last-minute bipartisan funding bill introduced by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) earlier that day. Jamaal Bowman expressed regret and apologized for any confusion caused, emphasizing that his intention was to expedite the vote rather than delay it. However, some Republicans accused the New York Democrat of deliberate sabotage.
Drawing parallels to charges related to the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, Trump characterized Jamaal Bowman’s act as a “very dangerous ‘Obstruction of an Official Proceeding’” and demanded that he face a similar fate
House Administration Committee Chairman Brian Steil (R-Wis.) announced an investigation into the incident, and Capitol Police confirmed their own investigation, confirming that the fire alarm was pulled around 12:05 p.m. on Saturday on the alternate bottom of the Cannon structure.
Despite the controversy, Jamaal Bowman ultimately voted in favor of McCarthy’s continuing resolution (CR), which passed with bipartisan support, funding the government at current spending levels through November 17th.
