According to Semafor’s report from September 27, a Biden administration executive order would require cloud computing corporations to report excessive power usage to the federal government.
According to claims made by unnamed insiders, the anticipated order will force cloud computing providers like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon to reveal when a client hires a specific quantity of processing power.
Semafor pointed out that this reporting methodology treats computing power like a resource for the entire country.
It also drew analogies to other established practices, like know-your-customer regulations that call for banks and financial services to keep an eye on and report transfers above a specific threshold (and, in the US, transactions in cash over $10,000).
