Anyone having a bank account has received an urgent warning from TV money expert Martin Lewis. Mr. Lewis used X, formerly known as Twitter, to alert the public to a crucial number they should contact if they receive a strange call from someone posing as a bank representative who might have disclosed personal information.

Mr. Lewis advised anyone in that situation to dial a certain number. Remember this phone number: 159, he stated. If you need to call your bank immediately and can’t remember the number (for example, if it just called and you hung up because you think it might be a fraud), just dial 159 and it will connect you.

PS: In case the caller is faking a dial tone, wait an hour before calling back if you received a potential scam call. The UK-wide 159 calling service, which was introduced by Stop Scams UK and Global Cyber Alliance, is intended to give customers a secure way to reach their banks by 2021.
