Gianno Caldwell, a Fox News analyst, addressed the House Judiciary Committee in Chicago, passionately discussing the city’s entrenched violence crisis, which tragically claimed the life of his brother last year

Gianno Caldwell stressed the perilous nature of everyday life in Chicago, where danger can strike unexpectedly. This same incident claimed two lives, including Christian’s, and left two others wounded. The assailant fled the scene swiftly, and no significant updates have emerged since June 2022. Gianno Caldwell labeled this as one of the many homicides in Chicago during 2022, expressing his concern for the untapped potential lost to violence.

Chicago witnessed a 25-year high in homicides in 2021, with 804 recorded. While 2022 showed a decrease, the city still suffered 695 killings. In 2023, there has been a slight drop in homicides compared to the same period last year, but violent crimes continue to surge, particularly motor vehicle thefts.

Gianno Caldwell emphasized the urgent need for federal funding to address this man-made disaster

He called for measures targeting the root causes of crime, support for community policing, and the implementation of the First Step Act. Gianno Caldwell expressed his frustration at the lack of progress within the Chicago Police Department, asserting the necessity for reform.

The hearing also featured testimony from retired CPD Officer Carlos Yanez Jr. and CPD Lt. John Garrido. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Illinois, criticized House Republicans for what she deemed a distraction from pressing national issues. She pledged to continue focusing on vital concerns affecting everyday Americans.
