Rodney Milstreed, a 56-year-old resident of Finksburg, Maryland, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the January 6, 2021 breach of the U.S. Capitol

Rodney Milstreed faced charges including assaulting police officers with a deadly weapon, possession of an illegal firearm, and misdemeanor assault. Alongside his prison term, he will serve two years of supervised release and is obligated to pay $2,000 in restitution.

Prosecutors emphasized Rodney Milstreed’s prominent position in the confrontations with law enforcement at the Capitol. He was witnessed throwing a smoke grenade at officers and attempting to dismantle a makeshift barrier made from a bike rack fence. Furthermore, he physically assaulted Capitol Police officers using a 4-foot wooden pick handle, resulting in one officer suffering a concussion.

Despite his expressions of remorse during sentencing, the discovery of an unregistered AR-15 during a search of his residence led to additional weapons charges. The Department of Justice has pursued legal action against over 1,100 individuals across nearly all states for their roles in January 6-related offenses, with 396 facing charges related to assaulting or obstructing law enforcement, constituting felonies.
