General Mark Milley, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, revealed that there are more than 200,000 Russian troops stationed in the occupied regions of Ukraine

General Mark Milley asserted that it would be inaccurate to label Kyiv’s ongoing military campaign as a failure. General Mark Milley pointed out that Ukraine has successfully breached multiple layers of Russian defensive lines and still possesses ample time to secure further gains. Nevertheless, he cautioned that even if all objectives of the counteroffensive are met, it won’t be adequate to entirely dislodge Russian forces from Ukraine.

General Mark Milley, slated for retirement as Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman at month’s end, previously stated on September 10 that Ukraine has approximately 30-45 days remaining before adverse weather conditions set in. General Mark Milley emphasized that the process of expelling all 200,000 occupying troops would be a protracted endeavor, extending well beyond the current campaign.

Ukraine’s counteroffensive, ongoing since June in the southeastern regions, has faced criticism for its gradual progress and limited territorial acquisitions

However, recent weeks have witnessed notable victories as Ukrainian forces breached the initial line of Russian defenses in the south, engaging the ostensibly weaker second line. On September 18, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, overseeing operations in the east, reported that Ukrainian troops successfully penetrated one of the Russian defensive lines near Bakhmut on the eastern front.

The recent liberation of Klishchiivka village to the south of the occupied city has reportedly established a strategic foothold for forthcoming counteroffensive maneuvers in the region, as conveyed by Ukrainian military spokesperson Illia Yevlash.
