The facility is a low-security confinement institution where she has been held since her transfer from FMC Carswell in Texas on May 30, as per U.S. Bureau of Prisons records.

A Bureau of Prisons official emphasized, “For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not elaborate on specific release plans.” In 2021, Emma Coronel Aispuro admitted guilt to charges of conspiring to distribute heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine, as well as participating in a money-laundering conspiracy and engaging in transactions with a foreign narcotics trafficker. While prosecutors sought a four-year sentence, U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras imposed a three-year term, characterizing her role as relatively minor within a larger organization.
Emma Coronel Aispuro’s legal team underscored that she was only 17 when she met Guzman, marrying him on her 18th birthday, highlighting her vulnerable position.
Jeffrey Lichtman, her attorney, emphasized, “This began when she was a very impressionable minor married to a powerful man more than three decades older.”
“El Chapo” is currently serving a life sentence in the U.S., having been convicted in February 2019 on charges of murder conspiracy and drug offenses
He was further ordered to forfeit $12.6 billion in drug-related profits. He is incarcerated in the high-security United States Penitentiary Florence, located in Colorado.
“El Chapo” and Emma Coronel Aispuro share twin daughters. During her sentencing, Emma Coronel Aispuro implored the judge for a punishment that would allow her to witness her then 9-year-old twins’ upbringing.
Recently, the drug lord penned a letter to the federal judge overseeing his case, expressing a desire for Emma Coronel Aispuro and their young daughters to visit him at the supermax prison, as reported by CBS News.
Despite her impending release, Emma Coronel Aispuro will be subject to years of supervised release.
