Smith had been convicted of disorderly conduct in August 2021 after demonstrating at a June 22, 2021 board meeting in response to the assault, which occurred on May 28, 2021, when a 14-year-old male, dressed in feminine attire, assaulted Smith’s daughter in a girls’ bathroom at Stone Bridge High School.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has granted a pardon to Scott Smith, who protested at a school board meeting following his daughter’s sexual assault by a male student who identified as “gender fluid”
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin conveyed that he had personally spoken with Smith. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin asserted that they had corrected an injustice, emphasizing that Smith should not have faced prosecution in the first place. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin maintained that Smith was acting to protect his daughter and labeled the conviction as a significant failure of the justice system. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin also accused the superintendent of hiding the incident.
Following the assault and Smith’s subsequent arrest, his family pursued legal action against Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) in October 2021
Initially, the LCPS board denied awareness of the May 28 incident, but later-revealed emails indicated that Superintendent Scott Ziegler had informed board members.
The male student responsible for the assault was convicted of charges related to the incident in October 2021, with the judge determining there was ample evidence of a forcible assault. Subsequently, in January 2022, a Loudoun County judge removed the teen from the sex offender registry, a decision that reportedly deeply affected the Smith family.
