Damion Brown, 24, from Southeast, DC, was apprehended by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch following a tragic incident on Sunday, September 10, 2023

The distressing event unfolded on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at around 3:13 p.m., prompting a swift response from members of the First District to the 1200 block of Duncan Place, Northeast. They discovered 21-year-old Jordan Coates, who had sustained gunshot injuries in front of an apartment complex. Swift action was taken as DC Fire and EMS swiftly transported her to a local hospital, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries.

The subsequent investigation led MPD officers to identify Damion Brown as the suspect, who was found inside one of the apartments at the location

This discovery led to a brief standoff. Eventually, Damion Brown, a 24-year-old resident of Southeast, DC, chose to surrender to the authorities. Damion Brown now faces charges of Second Degree Murder while Armed. The current assessment suggests that this tragic incident had its roots in a domestic context.

Damion Brown’s arrest comes as a significant development in the case, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate demise of Jordan Coates. The Metropolitan Police Department continues to diligently investigate this incident, seeking justice for the victim and her family.
