Based on a recent survey by KURU Footwear, Memphis and Nashville are the 2 towns in the nation where pedestrians are most likely to be injured or killed.
According to KURU, it used the most recent statistics available to rank the 37 largest U.S. metro areas according to the number of pedestrian fatalities and overall walking ratings.
Nashville concluded 2022 with 49 pedestrian fatalities, a new record, based on Metro police. In Nashville, there were 5.51 pedestrian fatalities per 100,000 residents, according to KURU’s survey.
Protection is the first concern for the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT), but the security of pedestrians is an additional topic of concern.
NDOT’s Vision Zero Implementation Plan which seeks no deaths and severe injuries on Nashville’s roadways was authorized by Metro Council in 2022.
