Amid escalating tensions, the US warns North Korea, cautioning against the sale of munitions to Russia to support its involvement in the Ukrainian conflict

John Kirby, the White House national security spokesperson from US warns North Korea, emphasized the United States’ apprehensions about potential arms deals between North Korea and Russia. Kirby from US warns North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), to halt its arms negotiations with Russia and adhere to its public commitments against providing or selling weapons to Moscow.

Kirby pointed out that the US possesses intelligence suggesting that Russia’s Defence Minister, Sergei Shoigu, encouraged North Korea to supply artillery ammunition during his visit to Pyongyang and meeting with Kim Jong Un in July.

Although specific details about how the US gathered the intelligence were withheld, Kirby’s statements underscore the US’s concerns about its rivals and adversaries, including China, supporting Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

These remarks follow recent correspondence exchanged between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, pledging to strengthen ties between their nations

Last year, the US accused North Korea of clandestinely shipping artillery shells to Russia, further fueling concerns about military collaboration. Kirby from US warns North Korea that recent information indicates the DPRK’s ongoing consideration of military support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine, with the possibility of high-level discussions persisting in the coming months.

Responses from the North Korean and Russian missions to the United Nations remain pending. Both countries have previously denied the allegations made by the US regarding weapons dealings. Despite facing international sanctions, North Korea has aligned itself with Russia’s actions in Ukraine, attributing Moscow’s military engagement to perceived threats posed by US-led Western policies.

The US warns North Korea with North Korea’s continued testing of intercontinental ballistic missiles, a move that directly challenges Washington. In response, the US, South Korea, and Japan have reinforced their security cooperation to counter North Korean provocations. While diplomacy remains a priority, North Korea’s nuclear weapons program remains a contentious issue, with efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula yet to yield results.
