According to NewsNation affiliate ValleyCentral, a former Texas state officer who has been charged with aiding his father’s drug trafficking operation may enter a plea of guilty on Monday.
In the beginning, Pharr resident Pablo Talavera Jr., 35, decided to admit guilt to filing a false statement in exchange for the prosecution dropping their case against him for drug trafficking. U.S. Magistrate Judge J. Scott Hacker expressed doubts regarding the agreement this past week.
Prosecutors claim that the FBI worked for approximately 2 years looking into a drug racket that Talavera’s father and uncle supposedly operated, shipping drugs from Texas to Tennessee.
Talavera’s father was taken hostage by a drug gang in 2019, according to an informant who spoke to the FBI, and Talavera and other family members met to talk about the imprisonment.
Talavera is accused of violating a criminal complaint by claiming that he “should’ve understood” regarding his father’s “participation in drug trafficking.” Talavera, though, argues that he was unaware of that.
