Southeast of San Antonio, a tiny educational district in South Texas is closing till the following Tuesday due to a “current spike of confirmed COVID-19 cases throughout our district.”
Families were informed of the restrictions through a letter by Runge ISD Superintendent Hector O. Dominguez Jr. Up to 7:50 a.m. on August 29, extra-curricular events and team rehearsals will also be suspended.
The short letter, issued Monday and stating that “the security and health of our students, employees, and society is a top priority,” was written by Dominguez. On Monday, all the district’s properties were cleaned.
With 195 students offered, Runge ISD is a tiny department that follows a 4-day workweek schedule that begins on Tuesday and ends on Friday. The district’s coronavirus tracking system, which was most recently updated on Monday, indicates that this week there was a 4.2% positivity rate, with 10 out of 43 employees being identified as infected.
