The Illinois Lottery is spearheading a Back to School Supply Drive aimed at benefiting the Boys & Girls Club Illinois Alliance
Adults aged 18 and above who take part in Back to School Supply Drive will receive a special appreciation envelope containing a $3 Illinois Lottery Instant Ticket for each school supply they contribute, with a maximum of eight Instant Tickets, while supplies last.
The Back to School Supply Drive aligns with the Illinois Lottery’s enduring commitment to K-12 education throughout the state. Roughly 25 cents of every dollar spent on Illinois Lottery games is channeled toward funding K-12 education in Illinois. Since 1985, the Illinois Lottery Back to School Supply Drive has channeled over $24 billion in revenue to support K-12 public school education in the state.
Harold Mays, Director of the Illinois Lottery, expressed enthusiasm about utilizing the partnership with the Boys & Girls Club Illinois Alliance to provide essential resources to those in need. He stated that the Back to School Supply Drive is poised to bring success to participating students and families involved in the afterschool program.
The scarcity of school supplies remains an ongoing challenge for families, with the demand for donations increasing in recent times
According to the 2022 Spring Teacher Survey by AdoptAClassroom.org, 96% of teachers cited escalating costs as negatively impacting classroom access to supplies. Due to inflation, fundamental classroom items like pencils and paper saw cost increases of 40% and 60% respectively, compared to 2020.
The Back to School Supply Drive by the Illinois Lottery extends the organization’s enduring partnership with the Boys & Girls Club Illinois Alliance. This initiative underscores the Illinois Lottery’s unwavering dedication to education and communities across the state. The efforts will bolster the Boys & Girls Club’s Power Hour afterschool program, aimed at enhancing academic achievements through homework aid, educational activities, and tutoring.
Awisi Bustos, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club Illinois Alliance, emphasized the commitment of Illinois’ Boys & Girls Clubs to ensure academic success for young individuals. The support of the Illinois Lottery and the influx of supply donations will ensure that all youth are well-prepared for their return to the classroom. Local radio stations WNNS and WQLZ will broadcast live from the Springfield drive, and iHeartMedia’s KISS-FM will be leading the Chicago drive. This event epitomizes a collaborative effort for a brighter educational future.
