Pennsylvania’s aging population is increasing, and so are funds generated from the Pennsylvania State Lottery. This week, Pennsylvania State Lottery officials said more than $1 billion was intended for programs that benefit senior Pennsylvanians.
This year was the second-best year for sales in Pennsylvania State Lottery
The Pennsylvania State Lottery was driven by traditional games with $4.98 billion in sales for the year. Online games Pennsylvania State Lottery generated $922.7 million in sales.
Pennsylvania State Lottery Officials say fiscal year 2022-2023 was the 12th consecutive year the Lottery has generated over $1 billion for senior benefit programs.
According to Pennsylvania State Lottery, the Lottery funds provided over 20.6 million free transit rides for senior citizens in Pennsylvania, who can ride public transit or commuter rail at no cost. Also in the 2021-22 fiscal year, Pennsylvania State Lottery generated nearly 124.8 million dollars for PACE and PACENET to help seniors with free medications.

There are seniors across Pennsylvania who are depending on Pennsylvania State Lottery to deliver the funding that pays for critical programs and services
Pennsylvania State Lottery will continue being there for the seniors so they have access to the programs and services that will provide them with the support they need.
State Lottery said 67 percent of the money generated goes to Lottery winners, 23 percent to senior benefit programs, eight percent to retailer and vendor commissions, and two percent to operating expenses.
